Nursing Department Assistant (NDA) III - Med/Surg & Telemetry

The 4D unit is a Complex Medical Care and Telemetry unit known for its collaborative environment, focus on nursing education, and patient care initiatives. In this role, you will care for adult patients with a variety of diagnoses, including behavioral health patients, and provide support with daily living activities and room maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Assist with a wide variety of patient care tasks and collaborate with healthcare teams to promote patient care delivery.
- Organize patient care assignments to ensure timely delivery and completion of care.
- Document care provided in patient records and label specimens properly.
- Ask patients about pain and report to the RN/LPN as needed.
- Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of units, including patient and unit equipment.
- Keep patient areas neat, uncluttered, and prepare rooms for patient admissions.
- Clean and maintain patient/unit equipment (e.g., over-bed tables, bed pans, bedside commodes).
- Report any problems (e.g., equipment, supplies, maintenance) immediately to the RN.
- Make hourly patient rounds to ensure safety measures (e.g., side rails up, beds in low/locked position, call lights within reach, restraints applied appropriately).
- Ensure all bed alarms are activated during hourly rounds.
- Perform EKGs, monitor blood glucose levels, collect specimens, and document vital signs.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) within the new hire period.
Preferred Qualifications
- State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) Certification.
- Previous nursing assistance experience.
Physical Requirements
- Full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
- Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, reaching, squatting, bending/stooping, and lifting patients.
- Corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
- Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, and negligible to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
- Physical demands exceed those for Light Work.
Personal Protective Equipment
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Schedule
This position works evenings from 3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.
