About the role

The instructor position plays a critical role in the teaching and learning process, ensuring that students achieve mastery of course, program, and institutional learning outcomes. The instructor is responsible for preparing and delivering high-quality instruction, engaging in program improvement processes, and participating in various institutional and student affairs initiatives. This position requires a proactive and dedicated approach to student success, including fostering a positive and supportive learning environment, utilizing diverse teaching methodologies, and collaborating with colleagues to ensure ongoing program and student development.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares lessons and course materials in accordance with the college's curriculum, using appropriate teaching methods and resources.
  • Adheres to course syllabi, ensuring alignment with program goals and accreditation requirements.
  • Delivers instruction to students through dynamic and varied instructional techniques to support various learning styles.
  • Maintains a positive, inclusive, and professional classroom environment that fosters student engagement and success.
  • Maintains regular and open communication with students regarding their progress, attendance, and performance, ensuring timely responses to inquiries and concerns.
  • Provides proactive academic advising, tutoring, and office hours to assist students with course material, assignments, and career development.
  • Participates in student affairs activities such as new student orientation, student clubs, and career services events to support overall student engagement and success.
  • Regularly assesses student learning outcomes; implements strategies to enhance student performance and course effectiveness.
  • Utilizes student achievement and learning data to contribute to program improvement processes, including program review, assessment, and evaluation.
  • Stays current with industry trends and academic best practices.
  • Collaborates with colleagues across departments to support student success, retention, and achievement of program outcomes.
  • Mentors and supports new faculty members to ensure successful integration into the institution.
  • Adheres to institutional, accreditation, and regulatory standards; ensures that all program components comply with these requirements.
  • Documents grades, attendance, student advising, and other required information in a timely manner, using the institution's designated software systems.
  • Participates in programmatic and institutional assessments to ensure compliance with accreditation standards and continuous quality improvement.
  • Ensures relevance of instructional materials; utilizes appropriate processes to facilitate improvements as dictated by academic, industry, or regulatory standards.
  • Ensures classroom and lab equipment is available and in good working condition; utilizes appropriate processes to facilitate repair and maintenance in a timely manner.
  • Fulfills additional responsibilities as assigned by the Program Director, Academic Dean, or Campus Director/President.

Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate degree from an approved school or a valid teaching credential; OR
  • Have completed a minimum of 1 year full-time teaching experience in a state-approved registered nursing, vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician school within the last 5 years; OR
  • Meet community college or state university teaching requirements in California
  • Current CA RN or LVN license
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as a registered nurse or licensed vocational nurse within the last 5 years
  • Proof of immunizations or titers OR (1) PPD, (2) Hep B, (3) Flu vaccine
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret materials related to area of expertise.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to perform basic calculations relevant to course material and student assessments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and any software required for course delivery.
