Nursing Care Technician/UKHC

About the Role
This position works one-on-one with a Registered Nurse (RN) to complete delegated tasks and provide direct patient care such as: obtain vital signs, phlebotomy, documentation, assist with ADLs (activities of daily living), order and stock supplies, respond to patient call lights, unit orientation, and patient admission, transfer, and discharge. Positions may also involve moving patients from bed to wheelchair or stretcher, or stretcher to treatment/surgical tables. Handling of specimens and delivery to labs and preparation of patients for surgical procedures may also be required.
The primary responsibilities consist of providing prompt, compassionate, and patient-centered care in a collaborative, team-oriented work environment. This dynamic environment supports collaborative efforts among the nursing staff and the teams of physicians to increase communication, follow-through, and enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction. This includes utilization of the nursing process in conjunction with a comprehensive patient-centered plan of care, ensuring patient satisfaction and adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
Responsibilities

Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- One or more of the following certifications or qualifications:
- Kentucky Registered State Registered Nurse Assistant (SRNA), or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for Emergency Department
- Registered Nurse (RN) nursing student who has completed first fundamental course and a clinical
- Military Medic
- Current/active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license
- Acquired Nursing Care Technician (NCT) competencies through continuous employment at the University of Kentucky
- Successful completion of the Earn While You Learn NCT Training Program within 8 weeks of hire
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification for the Healthcare Provider (valid at time of hire or completion during Earn While You Learn NCT Training Program)
Physical Requirements
- Regularly sit at a computer workstation for extended periods and perform tasks with repetitive motions (e.g., typing)
- Lift, push, and/or pull objects weighing up to or over 50 pounds
- Stand or walk with objects weighing up to 10 pounds; occasionally with objects weighing up to 25 pounds
- Work in confined spaces
- Exposure to risk of injury from moving, lifting, or positioning patients, equipment, or materials
- Exposure to loud noises, temperature extremes, hazardous chemicals and fumes (including waste), radiation, burns, cuts/punctures, blood-borne or airborne pathogens, and/or combative/violent people
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50–100 pounds on a daily basis
- Stand, walk, and sit for long periods of time
Schedule
- Three 12.5-hour shifts per week (7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.)
- Required to work some weekends and holidays
Pay
Salary range: $18.20–$24.82/hour. All pay rates will be based on candidate’s experience.
