About the role

The Nursing Attendant is a member of a team dedicated to providing high-quality care and services to patients by assisting in various functions.

Responsibilities

• Provides assistance/supervision during activities of daily living such as eating, bathing, and ambulating.
• Maintains hygiene and grooming needs of patients, including bathing, shaving, hair care, oral care, and perineal care.
• Facilitates patient mobility by performing activities such as range of motion, assisting with ambulation, transferring, applying splints and braces.
• Maintains skin integrity through the use of pressure relieving devices, turning, positioning, and assisting in pressure ulcer care.
• Ensures patient comfort by providing bed making, positioning, back rubs, and assists with elimination needs.
• Assists with patient safety by observing, intervening, responding to call bells, and conducting safety/environmental rounds.
• Maintains a quiet environment for patients and reports variations from baseline to the Registered Nurse (RN).
• Documents vital signs, obtains and documents specimens, administers hot and cold applications, prepares patients for surgery, performs diagnostic and therapeutic treatments, and provides post-mortem care.
• Transports patients to and from units, diagnostic procedures, and other hospital locations, and replaces/restocks supplies and equipment.
• Communicates with patients and families, answers call lights promptly, and reports observations and changes in patient condition to the RN.
• Maintains a clean and organized environment, and complies with infection control policies.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Graduate of a State Certified Program
• 1-3 years clinical experience as a nursing student/foreign graduate nurse
• Effective English communication skills, both written and oral
