Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates understanding and proficiency of the use of the Tele-sitter software
  • Maintains visual observation at all times
  • Voice redirects patient over digital 2-way audio device that is in patient room
  • Immediately summons the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide the appropriate care to the patient population based on the patient’s individualized treatment plan as delegated by the RN
  • Participates in hand-off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patients when arriving on unit and upon completion of shift assignment
  • Arranges meal break times with nurse and informs nurse prior to leaving monitoring station for any reason so that relief may be provided to ensure constant patient observation
  • Provides patient with explanations as necessary, but does not counsel or provide opinions
  • Participates in a collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues
  • Affirms patient environment safety
  • Sets aside potential safety hazards from room and reports findings to Charge Nurse
  • Communicates and interacts with patients, visitors, and other healthcare professionals in an effective manner and maintains positive, cooperative relationships
  • Implements the plan of care under the direction of the registered nurse, providing appropriate care with regard to patient’s condition and age
  • Observes patients for changes in physical condition throughout their stay, and reports to registered nurse
  • Assembles equipment and supplies in preparation for various diagnostic or treatment procedures performed by nurses or physicians
  • Performs simple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as assigned (i.e. enemas, collecting specimens, preoperative preparation of skin)
  • Performs computer functions within scope of role as defined by the individual unit
  • Implements measures to prevent potential patient problems/complications and reports unusual incidents in consultation with the registered nurse
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality
  • P Practices standard precautions in infection control in accordance with institutional policy
  • Aids staff during emergencies, within the scope of practice
  • Performs other projects and tasks as assigned
  • Participates in unit staff meetings and in-services
  • Complies with annual competency review guidelines
  • Incorporates the principles of Service Leadership to ensure positive patient/customer relations
  • Adheres to UI Health Care policies regarding personal conduct, including: follows established leadership, remains responsive to instruction and coaching from supervisors and meets the standards of personal appearance, attendance and punctuality

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and follow instructions

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or equivalent

Skills

  • Knowledge of basic nursing procedures and patient care
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals
  • Ability to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality
  • Ability to follow safety rules and prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors
