Nursing Assistant/Unit Secretary, Medical/Surgical Nursing, PRN, Variable

Job Summary

Multi-functional job requiring incumbents to be cross-trained to perform Unit Secretary duties as well as at least one other clinical support job. Cross training may include Patient Care Technician, Nursing Specialty Technician, or Certified Nursing Assistant roles.

Essential Functions

• Provides excellent customer service while performing clerical and administrative tasks, monitoring, ordering, and stocking supplies, and maintaining a safe work environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
• Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, performs additional functions such as data collection, basic nursing procedures, monitoring, measuring, and documenting patient responses, assisting with treatments and procedures, and assisting with maintenance of patient care equipment.
• Manages ordering, stocking, and inventory of equipment and supplies in collaboration with the nurse manager.
• Coordinates the maintenance of a safe, clean, and functional physical environment in accordance with regulatory standards, including cleaning equipment.
• Performs general reception and clerical duties at the nurse’s station, including responding to patient calls via intercom or in person.
• Provides administrative and clerical support as needed for the unit, including data entry, meeting minutes, maintaining bulletin boards, and organizing downtime forms.
• Performs one of the following duties on a nursing unit based on job description: PCT/NST/Certified Nursing Assistant: See job functions for specific job duties.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibility

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Unit Secretary training program or on-the-job training. Completion of a nursing assistant, patient care tech, or nursing fundamentals class preferred.
• Experience: No experience required. In lieu of US training, will accept 6 months of clerical or healthcare-related experience or completion of a nursing fundamentals course.
