Job Summary
To provide quality patient care, the successful Nursing Assistant (non-certified) performs certain nursing activities in caring for the personal needs and comfort of the adult, geriatric, infant and adolescent patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
Essential Functions
- Assists patients with activities of daily living and hygiene.
- Turns and repositions patients alone or with assistance.
- May transport patients and assist with walking.
- Assisting adult/pediatric patients with toileting needs in relation to their age including emptying established colostomy bags and urinary catheter removal.
- Assists with fall prevention interventions and patient restraints as delegated.
- Removing and reapplying anti-emboli hose or compression devices.
- Assists with admission of patients to the unit by preparing room, greeting, and orienting patient and/or family to the unit (bed, call light, phone, TV).
- Takes and records vital signs and with repeating questionable values.
- Prepares patients for meals and assisting in feeding and providing snacks and supplements.
- Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens. Delivers specimens to appropriate department as requested.
- Completes documentation in EMR in accurate and timely manner.
- Maintains cleanliness and order of hospital room, utility room, diet kitchen, hallways, and alcoves. Disposes of excess linen and keeps linen emptied.
- Performs point of care testing as trained and delegated by RN. Reports lab values to RN.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Completion of a nursing assistant program preferred.
Experience: No previous experience required.
