About the Role
Provides service-oriented patient care under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. Performs duties that support the operation of the nursing unit in the Mother Baby Unit on a per diem basis, scheduled from 7:00pm to 7:30am.
Responsibilities
- Provides age-appropriate care for the patient population served.
- Uses appropriate resources for patients with special needs.
- Integrates principles of infection prevention into practice.
- Responsible for stocking all patient care rooms and closets at the beginning of the shift and ordering necessary supplies.
- Checks the blanket/fluid warmer outside the OR for outdated materials; stocks with blankets, sheets, and gowns. Dates solutions and records warmer temperature.
- Docks Neptune and restocks cartridges.
- Brings a bed from Mother Baby and places it outside the OR for C/Section.
- Maintains equipment room: ensures equipment is clean and organized, peanut balls/birthing balls are cleaned and bagged, all monitors are cleaned and bagged, instruments are organized.
- Stocks and prepares vaginal delivery table.
- After delivery, makes an icepack, provides beverage as requested, brings infant scale to room, removes delivery table, delivers used instruments to Sterile Processing.
- Picks up sterile supplies from Sterile Processing.
- Ensures soiled utility room is clean and orderly.
- Maintains placenta refrigerator (discards placentas after 7 days and removes placenta triage forms).
- Takes placentas to lab and restocks Formalin.
- Secures HUGS tags and stocked baby cribs.
- Opens OR for c/s utilizing sterile technique.
- Assists nursing staff with vital signs, fetal monitor, bedside glucose monitoring as directed by RN.
- Assists with entering lab results into PENN chart.
Requirements
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required).
- High School Diploma or GED (Required).
- Training and/or experience at an acute care or skilled nursing facility, or student nurse with hospital-based clinical experience.
