About the Role
Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, this role assumes responsibility for the collection of data related to patient status, performance of basic nursing procedures, ongoing collection and documentation of patient data, assistance with treatments and procedures, and maintenance of patient care equipment.
Responsibilities
- Assists patients with activities of daily living and hygiene.
- Turns and repositions patients alone or with assistance.
- Transports patients and assists with walking.
- Assists adult/pediatric patients with toileting needs, including emptying established colostomy bags and urinary catheter removal.
- Assists with fall prevention interventions and patient restraints as delegated.
- Removes and reapplies anti-emboli hose or compression devices.
- Assists with admission of patients by preparing the room, greeting, and orienting patient and/or family to the unit (bed, call light, phone, TV).
- Takes and records vital signs, repeating questionable values.
- Prepares patients for meals, assists in feeding, and provides snacks and supplements.
- Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens and delivers them to the appropriate department.
- Completes documentation in EMR accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintains cleanliness and order of hospital room, utility room, diet kitchen, hallways, and alcoves.
- Disposes of excess linen and keeps linen emptied.
- Performs point-of-care testing as trained and delegated by RN and reports lab values to RN.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Completion of a nursing assistant program preferred.
- No previous experience required.
