Nursing Assistant - OR
About the role
The University of Minnesota Medical Center (UMMC) is seeking a full-time Nursing Assistant for the Operating Room at their East Bank location in Minneapolis, MN. This role is 1.0 FTE (80 hours every two weeks), working 8-hour shifts from Monday through Friday (2:30-11:00pm) with occasional weekends and holidays. Off-shifts are available to cover vacation requests.
Responsibilities
- Facilitates OR room turnover.
- Performs cleanup of OR.
- Readies OR for next patient.
- Procures equipment.
- Properly cares for equipment and takes action for preventive maintenance.
- Transports specimens and blood products.
- Transports dirty case carts to decontamination area.
- Provides Patient Care:
- Aids in transfer/positioning of patients.
- Aids in preparation of patients for surgery.
- Transports patient.
- Maintains Inventory Control.
- Orders and manages supplies as directed.
- Restocks department with supplies.
- Makes rounds to keep current inventory in stock.
- Communicates supply issues to appropriate person.
- Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.
Requirements
- Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required.
- Ontrack participants need to acquire the certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
- Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
- Or six months of recent direct care experience in a long-term, home care or acute care setting (appropriate roles may include Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant, or Emergency Room Technician).
- Or current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.
- Or current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech.
Qualifications
- One of the following:
- Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
- Six months of recent direct care experience in a long-term, home care or acute care setting (appropriate roles may include Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant, or Emergency Room Technician).
- Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.
- Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire.
Skills
Ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.

Pay
The posted compensation range corresponds to the minimum and maximum pay rates outlined in your union agreement for the respective job classifications at the time of job posting. An individual's pay rate within this range may be influenced by various factors, including FTE, skills, knowledge, educational background, and qualifying experience as specified in the contract. If your role is eligible for a sign-on bonus, the bonus program that is approved and in place at the time of offer, is what will be honored.
