About the role
Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, you will assume responsibility for the collection of data related to patient status, perform basic nursing procedures, and provide ongoing collection and documentation of patient data. You will also assist with treatments, procedures, and maintenance of patient care equipment.
Responsibilities
- Assists patients with activities of daily living and hygiene.
- Turns and repositions patients alone or with assistance; may transport patients and assist with walking.
- Assists adult/pediatric patients with toileting needs, including emptying established colostomy bags and urinary catheter removal.
- Assists with fall prevention interventions and patient restraints as delegated.
- Removes and reapplies anti-emboli hose or compression devices.
- Assists with admission of patients to the unit by preparing the room, greeting, and orienting patient and/or family to the unit (bed, call light, phone, TV) (50%).
- Takes and records vital signs accurately and repeats questionable values (10%).
- Prepares patients for meals, assists in feeding, and provides snacks and supplements (10%).
- Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens; delivers specimens to appropriate department as requested (5%).
- Completes documentation in EMR accurately and in a timely manner (5%).
- Maintains cleanliness and order of hospital room, utility room, diet kitchen, hallways, and alcoves; disposes of excess linen (5%).
- Performs point-of-care testing as trained and delegated by RN; reports lab values to RN (5%).
Requirements
- Completion of a nursing assistant program preferred.
- No previous experience required.
