About the role

The Nursing Assistant assists in patient care throughout nursing areas, safely transports patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatches services, and documents services rendered. They also observe and report patient data/status to assigned RNs, respond to peaks in acuity and emergent situations, and function as an observer for patients requiring constant observation.

Responsibilities

• Understands patients' conditions to ensure their care and safety.
• Provides direct/non-direct care under the direct supervision of licensed personnel.
• Observes, obtains, and reports patient data/status to assigned RNs.
• Responds to peaks in acuity and emergent situations as directed by nursing staff.
• Maintains current knowledge/certification and BLS certification.
• Functions as a preceptor to new employees.
• Accepts and responds appropriately to feedback and recommendations for change.
• Displays professional working relationships with colleagues from all disciplines.
• Maintains awareness of hospital policy and procedure.
• Fosters a "Culture of Safety" through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment.
• Verifies patient identification with 2 identifiers before starting any procedure.
• Understands individual role/responsibilities in the event of hospital codes and emergency preparedness.
• Maintains awareness of MSDS sheets and how to access.
• Conducts patient safety rounds utilizing principles of SBAR, follows chain of command to communicate any identified patient or staff safety risks.
• Demonstrates proper body mechanics for all functions and use of patient lifts as needed.
• Utilizes software applications required by department and unit standards.
• Works within legal, regulatory, and ethical practice standards relevant to the position.
• Safeguards the privacy and security of patient information.
• Bridges potential compliance issues to a manager, supervisor, director, or VP.
• Complies with mandatory education requirements of the compliance, privacy, and security programs.
• Conveys respect for values, preferences, and expressed needs of the patient and family.
• Collaborates with the patient, and family according to patient preferences, in planning, implementing, and evaluating care.
• Welcome the presence and participation of family members at all times according to patient preferences, regardless of rounds, change of shift, or other events on unit.
• Considers the individual needs of each person with whom they interact.
• Possesses age and cultural knowledge and awareness.
• Interacts with sensitivity in the delivery of care/services of diverse populations as needed.
• Effectively utilizes resources to provide care/services - such as, interpreter services and on-line sources.

  Requirements

  • Minimum Education: Preferred High School Diploma/GED preferred.
  • Minimum Work Experience: Previous Nursing Assistant or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Required Classes/Skills: BLS - Basic Life Support. Required Additional Knowledge And Abilities: Basic medical terminology, Basic computer skills, Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately, Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals.

  Qualifications

  • ACLs (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) (Including courses offered through SSH).
  • BLS Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) (Including courses offered through SSH).
  • INSTRUCTOR- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) (Including courses offered through SSH).
  • INSTRUCTOR- Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) (Including courses offered through SSH).
