Nursing Assistant II

Under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse, the Nursing Assistant performs specific responsibilities within the framework of the NAI listing granted by the NC Department of Health and Human Services, and may also serve in an Observer Role to monitor assigned patients for a specified time period.

Responsibilities

• Participates in Quality Improvement (QI) Activities: problem-solving, data collection, safe practices, infection control, fire and disaster regulations, and cost savings.
• Attends and utilizes staff development programs and educational resources; fulfills annual mandatory educational requirements; participates in the orientation of new staff and students as delegated by the supervising RN.
• Follows hospital and unit-based policies and procedures to provide quality patient care, maintain active NAI licensure/certification, and build interpersonal relations and communications.
• Works effectively in a team environment, demonstrating respectful behaviors and attitudes, and seeking help or utilizing the chain of command appropriately.
• Contributes to unit, department, and hospital goals, including cost-effective use of equipment and supplies.
• Under the supervision of a licensed nurse, assists in providing direct patient care and completes delegated skills and tasks as ascribed by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
• Monitors patients for signs of escalating behaviors and alerts the nurse if there is a risk of harm to self or others.
• Maintains the level of observation according to the patient’s plan of care and as ordered within the medical record.
• Communicates effectively with the patient’s care team, including receiving reports and providing meaningful handoffs.
• Documents accurately on established workflows within the medical record.
• Provides hazard surveillance and reduces risk within the patient’s physical environment.
• Engages patients appropriately in distraction activities as needed.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED (preferred) or higher.
• NAI listing with NC Department of Health and Human Services (required).
• Current American Heart Association HeartSaver or higher certification (required).
• De-escalation training (Non-violent crisis intervention or other program adopted by ECU Health). If not current at the time of hire, must complete within 90 days of employment and maintain without lapse (not required for Ambulatory clinical positions).

• Shift: Day Hours, Part-time
• Weekends: Yes
