Nursing Assistant I - Cardiovascular and Thoracic Critical Care Unit

About the role

The Nursing Assistant I position is available in the Cardiovascular and Thoracic Critical Care Unit (CTCCU) at the North Carolina Surgical Hospital, part of the UNC Center for Heart and Vascular Care. This unit specializes in the care of critically ill patients with cardiothoracic and vascular diseases.

Responsibilities

• Aid physicians and other healthcare providers with routine examinations and procedures, and procure necessary equipment and supplies during emergencies.
• In the psychiatric setting, assist with reality orientation, participate in behavior modification plans/therapy, provide informal support therapy, verbal de-escalation, physical management of aggressive patients, facilitate play for children, and monitor therapeutic activities.
• Observe, collect, and document patient information, reporting significant changes to a registered nurse or physician promptly.
• Assist with patient admissions, orientation, and discharge processes, provide personal care, and perform indirect care tasks.
• Distribute patient education materials and reinforce teaching from registered nurses or physicians.

Requirements

• No formal education required, but must have relevant experience.
• Must hold Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Fluent in verbal and written English, and able to develop basic computer skills.

Qualifications

• At least six (6) months of nursing assistant experience preferred.
• Knowledgeable in reinforcing patient education and understanding of instructions.

Skills

• Fluent in verbal and written English.
• Ability to develop basic computer skills.

Benefits

This position qualifies for an extensive benefit package including PTO hours, which are accrued based on the number of worked hours.

Pay

$18.00 - $24.66 per hour (Hiring Range)

Schedule

Rotating 12-hour shifts (7am-7:30pm and 7pm-7:30am), 36 hours per week, with weekend and holiday rotations.
