About the role

Riverside University Health System's (RUHS) - Medical Center seeks a Nursing Assistant to join the Full Time Float Pool in Moreno Valley. Under supervision, this role assists professional nursing personnel or other healthcare providers in providing basic patient care and treatment, observes patients via video monitoring equipment from a remote location, and performs nonprofessional nursing duties in the care of physically and mentally ill patients. The Nursing Assistant supports clinical procedures, maintains a safe environment, and communicates effectively with the healthcare team to promote quality patient outcomes.

This is an entry-level classification typically reporting to supervisory or management-level nursing staff. Incumbents may be assigned to any outpatient clinic or inpatient nursing unit across RUHS or within the Department of Public Health. The most competitive candidate will possess one year of acute care CNA experience. Bilingual skills are preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic bedside nursing care to assure comfort and cleanliness of patients; take and record temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure; bathe, shave, feed, and dress patients and assist those capable of self-care.
• Collect, test, and record results of routine specimen examinations; provide patients with bedpans, remove and clean them, and record intake and output of patients.
• Assist in the administration of treatments such as suctions, soaks, and enemas; give and empty sitz baths; assist doctors or professional healthcare providers with IVs, pelvic exams, spinal taps, or other medical procedures.
• Assist patients in getting into and out of bed and wheelchairs; lift or assist in lifting, restraining, and positioning patients; may set up fracture equipment and assist doctors in applying casts and braces.
• Clean and sterilize instruments, dressings, supplies, and utensils; transport patients to and from units.
• Observe and report unusual behavior of patients through the unit chain of command; may accompany and attend mental patients in therapy sessions, court appearances, or daily living routines, including social and recreational activities.
• Provide patient transportation in the absence of a Medical Transportation Technician; assist in admission and discharge of patients from the unit; go on ambulance runs as necessary.
• Monitor patients using AvaSys Telesitter Solution software and monitoring equipment; verbally redirect patients via a 2-way radio from engaging in at-risk behaviors; summon nursing staff if a patient requires assistance, is nonresponsive to verbal commands, or can no longer be viewed on the video monitor.

Requirements

• Successful completion of the education required by the State of California to obtain the necessary valid certifications.
• Possession of a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association.
• Current and valid Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) issued by the State of California, current and valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification approved by the State of California, or Paramedic License issued by the California Emergency Medical Services Authority. Certification must be maintained throughout employment.
• Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of basic patient care and safety; patient vital signs and basic medical terminology; video monitoring equipment and software; safe patient handling techniques, including lifting, positioning, and transfer methods.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English; learn hospital routines and techniques; monitor and alert nursing staff when a patient becomes a danger to themselves; perform bedside nursing care in an understanding and sympathetic manner; communicate effectively with patients using a microphone and headset; follow oral and written directions; use a computer, 2-way radio, mobile phone, and video monitoring equipment; maintain simple records; apply proper body mechanics in lifting and moving patients.

Schedule

• Night Shift: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM (6-12 hour shifts and 1-8 hour shift with every other weekend commitment). Schedule may rotate based on operational needs.
• Rotating weekends and holidays.
• Incumbents must be flexible to work any shift, including weekends and holidays.

Pay

Salary Range:

• $21.54 - $28.70 Hourly
• $3,733.32 - $4,974.66 Monthly
• $44,799.87 - $59,695.92 Annually

Shift Differentials:

• Evening Shift Diff (6:00 PM - 11:00 PM): $0.60 for the time actually worked between the hours.
• Night Shift Diff (11:00 PM - 7:00 AM): $1.20 for the time actually worked between the hours.
