Responsibilities
- Promote a positive patient experience by partnering with the nurse, physician, healthcare team and other healthcare providers to provide excellence in patient experience.
- Assist with daily living activities and comfort measures.
- Perform basic patient care functions such as ADLs, ambulation, and vital signs.
- Perform advanced technical skills as required by the unit, including:
- Phlebotomy
- Simple treatments
- Dressing changes
- Oral suctioning
- Discontinuing Foley catheters
- Perform clerical functions such as retrieving data, maintaining unit supplies, and transporting supplies/patient medications.
- Work in a fast-paced environment requiring multi-tasking and effective communication with the Registered Nurse and ancillary team.
- Provide a safe environment for the provision of patient care.
- Participate in hourly patient rounding.
- Answer telephone and call lights promptly, professionally, and notify appropriate individuals of needs for follow-up.
- Resolve patient concerns or escalate to the charge nurse if unable to resolve.
- Proactively offer assistance and comfort measures to patients and families.
- Maintain confidentiality adhering to HIPAA regulations and recommended privacy procedures.
- Use effective written and oral communication skills with patients, staff, physicians, family, and visitors.
- Use safety communication techniques such as AIDET and ARRC.
- Document completion of patient care in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Communicate patient care concerns/problems/emergencies to the RN or Charge Nurse in a timely manner.
- Maintain and act as unit expert regarding patient care documentation tools related to their role in the event of downtime.
- Follow appropriate PPE/infection control policies between patient care and equipment usage.
- Utilize proper body mechanics, patient safe handling devices, and additional assistive devices.
- Perform environment of care rounds.
Requirements
- Rising Senior in Good Standing or High School Diploma / GED
- BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
- Graduation from a State approved program for Certified Nursing Assistants or Patient Care Tech Program
