About the role

The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long-term care. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Delivers age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per care plan. A member of the nursing team, accountable for following infection prevention and control policies and Personal Protective Equipment use.

Responsibilities

• Assist with basic health care needs and daily living activities including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, and obtaining and recording vital signs.
• Provide psychosocial support and other personal care to assigned residents.
• Assist residents in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct and appropriate transfer techniques and equipment; provide range of motion and passive exercises.
• Complete tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive dining experience; assist residents with meals and snacks, provide water and supplements as appropriate.
• Aid providers and nursing staff members with procedures, if needed.
• Document resident interactions and outcomes related to resident care, behavior, activity, and dietary.
• Communicate resident’s changing condition and care-related concerns/responses to the charge nurse.
• Collect non-invasive body fluid specimens and gather vital signs.
• Provide housekeeping and laundry services to assist residents with keeping living areas clean and operational.
• Provide assistance and documentation with wellness and recreational programs; encourage resident participation.
• May participate in departmental/organization committees and task forces as needed.

Requirements

• 3 months experience in Long-Term Care required (6 months preferred).
• Minimum of 30 hours per month, including one weekend shift per month.
• Travel required to support multiple locations within a 75-mile radius of permanent address.
• High school graduate or GED preferred, but not required.
• Minimum of 18 years of age.
• Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
• Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state certified CNA within four months of date into the position by being enrolled in a training program or in the process of obtaining certification through Endorsement.
• CNA training and certification required and provided by facility.
• Colorado: Depending on facility, Qualified Medication Administration Person (QMAP) certification with the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment required.
• Satisfactorily completes yearly department-specific competency testing and maintains a record of continuing education credits for each year (minimum of 12 hours annually).
• Maintains all department-specific required certifications.
• When applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
• May require a motor vehicle report and proof of valid driver’s license if classified as a Sanford Category II Driver; must be medically qualified to perform essential driving functions per Sanford Driving Policy.

Pay

• Salary range: $17.00 – $25.50 per hour.
• Premium pay: $7.00 per hour on top of base wage for travel.
• Shift differentials: $1.25 per hour for weekend shifts and $1.25 per hour for evening/night shifts (6:00 PM – 6:00 AM).

Schedule

• PRN (as needed) with varied shifts.
• Weekly hours vary.
