About the role
This position is located at Navicent Health Medical Center - Nursing: Medical/Surgical IU 5 East. Benefits eligible, 36 hours per week, days vary.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates competency in the physical care of the patient according to AHF/unit patient care standards.
- Personal care for all body systems, including bathing, oral hygiene, perineal care, linen changes and hair care.
- Pre- and post-op/procedure care.
- Post-mortem care.
- Placement of electrodes for cardiac, respiratory and/or fetal monitoring.
- Ambulation and exercise assistance.
- Care for patients with infectious diseases, including those requiring isolation.
- Correct positioning of patients in beds, chairs, and specialty surfaces.
- Transfer of patients (e.g. bed to chair, bed to commode or back).
- Transportation of patients on wheelchair, stretcher, bed, etc.
- Correct positioning and handling of body fluids.
- Documentation of intake/output, vital signs, weights and other monitoring.
- Notifies nurse of abnormal vital signs, observations, physical complaints, etc.
- Assistance with patients with latex allergies.
- Prevention of falls and maintaining a clean, safe environment.
- Use of proper body mechanics and appropriate lift techniques/resources.
- Glucose monitoring via fingerstick.
- Admission, transfer and discharge procedures.
- Communication with patients, families, and members of the health care team.
- Confidentiality and effective conflict resolution.
- Maintaining competency in all required complex care activities within their home units.
- Participation in quality assurance and PI activities.
- Attendance at unit meetings and reading/initialing minutes of all meetings not attended.
- Compliance with unit-specific articulated job expectations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- BLS, CPI certification; Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
- One year of experience taking care of patients and dealing with the public preferred.
- Effective communication, interpersonal, teamwork, organization, and prioritization skills.
- Flexibility in changing assignments, workload, and learning new skills.
- Knowledge of age-appropriate care and patient care standards.
Qualifications
- Ability to communicate with patients, staff, and coworkers.
- Physical requirements and working conditions: much of the day spent walking and standing on tile or carpet, bending, stooping, and sitting; requires visual near and distance acuity, verbal ability, and good body mechanics.

Pay
$19.80 - $29.70 per hour based on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, and/or training.
