About the role

This position is an adjunct clinical faculty position at Lower Columbia College, responsible for providing instructional support for nursing and allied health students in various practical settings and clinical courses.

Responsibilities

  • Foster student learning and development by delivering engaging and effective clinical instruction in various settings.
  • Promote critical thinking and clinical judgment among students.
  • Audit and provide constructive feedback to students regularly.
  • Maintain student and patient safety in all clinical and lab environments.
  • Model professional nursing behavior and collaborate with the nursing education team.
  • Maintain currency in nursing practice and education by regularly updating knowledge and skills.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in nursing from an accredited institution or baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited institution with a graduate degree in a health education-related field from an accredited institution.
  • Active, unencumbered registered nurse licensure in Washington State.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
  • Expertise in medical/surgical nursing or a combination of medical/surgical and specialty practice requiring direct client care.
  • Successful completion of background clearance after hire.
  • Proof of required immunizations and a negative drug screen per clinical agency requirements after hire.
  • Commitment to serving a diverse student body.

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications: Graduate degree in nursing or baccalaureate degree in nursing with a graduate degree in a health education-related field.
  • Preferred qualifications: Experience teaching adult learners, expertise in using a Learning Management System, experience in curriculum development and instructional assessment, and nursing experience in specialty areas.

Benefits

  • Quarterly salary paid at the current lab rate, plus a nursing faculty retention stipend (equal to 23.5% for 25-26 academic year).

Pay

  • Lecture rate: $80.68 per contact hour ($887.48 per credit).
  • Lab rate: $60.08 per contact hour ($1,321.76 per credit).
  • Field-based experience rate: $43.64 per contact hour ($1,440.16 per credit).

Schedule

  • Adjunct faculty employed on adjunct and/or quarterly contracts shall earn sick leave based on their contracted FTE multiplied by seven (7) for each month they are in active teaching status.
  • Adjunct academic employees shall have four (4) days of personal leave available from July 1 through June 30. No more than (2) days may be used per quarter.
  • Adjunct faculty also receive paid jury duty leave.

Conditions of Employment

  • Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted.
  • Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered by the Public Employees Benefits Board.
  • Participation in one of the retirement plans is mandatory.
  • The two plans are the State Board Retirement Plan administered through TIAA-CREF and TRS Plan 3 through the Department of Retirement Systems.
  • Adjuncts who teach at other Washington State Community & Technical colleges and are actively contributing to retirement there may contribute to retirement at LCC.
  • Tuition waiver for adjunct employees that are eligible for benefits (teaching more than 50% of full-time as indicated above).
