Nurse Tech Neuro ICU
About this unit
The Neuro Critical Care Unit is an Intensive Care Unit within the Meijer Heart Center at Butterworth Hospital. The Neuro ICU is part of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at the Medical Center and is West Michigan’s largest stroke center. We specialize in the care of patients with stroke or other neurological conditions, including hemorrhagic stroke, ischemic stroke, seizures, and hydrocephalus with critical care needs.
Our nurses are part of a collaborative team and work alongside nurse techs, intensivists, APPs, pharmacists, therapists, social workers, chaplains, and secretaries to provide specialized care. This team has developed a culture of collaboration, kindness, teamwork, and learning.
Responsibilities
- Take vitals and check blood sugars
- Perform bed bathing, ambulating, and wound care
- Assist with catheterization
- Act as a safety attendant for patients
- Ensure required documentation is performed accurately and timely
- Act as a team member in delivering quality patient care alongside RNs and providers
- Perform basic skills per department guidelines and communicate observations to the healthcare team
- Collect and report physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with the RN or provider
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days
- Experience in direct patient care is preferred
Orientation
Orientation for this role requires availability for 3 daytime training shifts per week (Monday–Thursday, along with rotating weekends) for 8 weeks. After this period, the regular night shift will begin.
