Nurse Supervisor RN Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide oversight and leadership to all on-duty nursing staff during non-business hours.
- Ensure proper staffing levels, monitor workflow, and assist with prioritizing patient care tasks.
- Address staff concerns and promote a positive, collaborative work environment.
- Act as the highest-ranking on-site authority during after-hours and weekends.
- Make timely decisions related to patient care, staffing, safety, and operations.
- Collaborate with other departments when needed and escalate issues appropriately.
- Offer clinical expertise and support in resolving patient care challenges.
- Afford assistance in handling complex cases or difficult family situations.
- Handle call-ins or last-minute staffing changes, ensuring coverage and continuity of care.
- Makes frequent rounds to note resident/patient conditions and to ensure nursing personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards.
- Give and receive the nursing report upon reporting in and ending shift duty hours.
- Ensure assigned work area (i.e. nurse station, med. Cart, medication room, etc.), resident/patient care rooms and treatment areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner.
- Ensure medication rooms and medication carts are locked according to regulation.
- Maintain close coordination with all departments to ensure continuity and collaboration of services.
- Develop and participate in programs designed for in-service education, on the job training and orientation classes for newly assigned personnel.
- Ensures that direct nursing care be provided by a licensed nurse, a certified nursing assistant, and/or a nurse aide trainee qualified to perform the procedure.
- Attends and participates in in-service classes, performance improvement (“PI”) committees, continuing education in-service programs and other meetings as assigned.
- All other duties, as assigned.
Nurse Supervisor RN Skills and Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to multi-task and remain calm under stress.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work and delegate to others.
- Understands and follows infection control standards, policies and procedures.
- Must be able to adapt to a flexible work schedule and occasional overnight travel.
- Possess special interest in, and a positive attitude about, working with short and long-term care residents and the elderly.
- Demonstrate basic computer knowledge and ability with an aptitude to learn company applications. Microsoft Office version 1997, 2000 or XP, MS Word, MS Access, MS Excel, E-mail, Outlook, Internet Explorer.
Nurse Supervisor RN Education and Experience
- Nursing Degree or diploma from an accredited College or University.
- Possess a current license to practice in the State as a Registered Nurse.
- At least 1 year of supervisory experience preferred.
- Long-Term care and MDS experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, extended sitting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to distinguish smells and temperatures, all with or without the aid of mechanical devices is required.
- Limited potential for exposure to environmental hazards.
- Understanding and adherence to company safety standards and protocols required.
- Meet all health requirements as needed.
