About the role

Supervises, assesses, plans, coordinates, facilitates, and evaluates patient care and staff development. Determines and maintains unit or program needs and standards using nursing process and evidence-based information. Assumes responsibility and accountability for incorporating the vision, values, mission, and critical goals of the organization into job performance. Assists the Clinical Director in the management of the unit's assigned staff and patient population. Provides direct patient care according to the needs of the unit/program and collaborates with physicians in executing the medical plan of care.

All RN staff who have direct responsibility for the care of stroke patients must have knowledge of:

• Stroke symptoms and warning signs
• Protocols and pathways used to identify, evaluate, and manage stroke patients
• NIHSS Stroke Alert activation and protocol
• Stroke quality indicators
• Available stroke patient education materials and community resources
• Educational requirements
• Stroke Center website resources

Responsibilities

• Oversees staff and ensures adequate patient care, including hiring, onboarding, evaluating, managing performance, coaching, and developing employees to ensure productivity, quality of work, and alignment with mission, vision, and values.
• Establishes or contributes to care plans, including administering medication, checking dosages, avoiding interactions, starting/maintaining/discontinuing IV lines, administering therapies and treatments, observing patients, recording observations, and consulting with physicians.
• Ensures compliance with all policies and financial stewardship by maintaining department budget integrity.
• Serves as a resource to staff, patients, families, caregivers, physicians, and visitors to improve patient experience, clinical outcomes, and promote a healthy work environment.
• Teaches patients and families how to manage illnesses or injuries, including post-treatment/home care needs, diet, nutrition, exercise programs, and self-administration of medication and therapy.
• Facilitates inter/intra-departmental collaboration, communication, and problem-solving.
• Participates in policy revisions and departmental committees.
• Contributes to recruitment and retention of staff through role-modeling, fostering peer relationships, staff education, and mentorship programs.
• Coordinates educational and professional activities related to department/unit needs.
• Regularly rounds with physicians, patients, or families to improve patient experience and quality practice.
• Utilizes the nursing process and evidence-based practice to provide and evaluate patient care.
• Initiates and supports quality improvement initiatives and uses resources effectively.
• Directs staff in applying the nursing process and coordinates patient care to promote independent functioning.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited NLN/CCNE institution (Required)
• Legally licensed to work as a Registered Nurse in the State of Arizona (Required)
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification (Required)
• Registered Nurse (RN) state licensure (Required)
• 2 years of Registered Nurse (RN) experience (Required)
• 3 years of Registered Nurse (RN) experience (Preferred)
