About the role

The Nurse Scientist is responsible for operationalizing, maintaining, and evaluating the organization's nursing research and evidence-based practice (EBP) activities. The Nurse Scientist is a change agent and a system-wide leader responsible for implementing an infrastructure that supports nurses in shaping the work environment by assuring their practice is evidence-based and nursing knowledge is generated through research. The Nurse Scientist will promote a culture of inquiry to bridge the gap between research and practice by engaging nurses in research and EBP with a focus on guiding the development of an infrastructure of resources, including mentors and coaches.

Responsibilities

  • Work with shared governance councils
  • Develop workflows and processes to meet program needs
  • Stay abreast of current literature on key programmatic and practice areas
  • Identify and lead program improvements
  • Provide feedback and guidance for nursing leaders

Requirements

  • PhD in Nursing Science or equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in developing nursing and interdisciplinary research
  • Ongoing focused research program of study
  • Distinguished record of funded research
  • Demonstrated competence and experience in developing, utilizing, and evaluating Nursing Research for a hospital-based program
  • Successful track record of nursing research projects (external funding and publication)
  • Academic, clinical, and leadership experiences, including experience as a mentor to novice nurses and an educator to nursing staff
  • Experience in developing nursing Research and EBP programming at a Magnet® recognized healthcare organization

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse AL Single State
  • Bachelor of Science Nursing in Nursing
  • Doctorate Degree (nonessential)
  • 5 Years Staff Level

Skills

  • Strong research and evidence-based practice skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
  • Ability to develop and implement research programs
  • Knowledge of current literature and trends in nursing research
