About the role
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process and standards of practice for a professional nurse. The RN is expected to perform all staff nurse activities and function as charge nurse when assigned. The RN maintains overall accountability/responsibility for assigned patients, even though some activities/tasks may be delegated to Technical Nurses, Patient Care Associates, and/or Sitters. Assignments are performed appropriately to age and developmental level of patients being served. All team members will be expected to work all areas of their unit.
Responsibilities
- Provides direct patient care using the nursing process.
- Maintains accountability/responsibility for assigned patients.
- Delegates tasks to Technical Nurses, Patient Care Associates, and/or Sitters as appropriate.
- Works all areas of the unit as required.
- Performs all staff nurse activities and functions as charge nurse when assigned.
- Ensures compliance with all safety protocols and standards of practice.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Monitors and documents patient progress and responses to treatment.
- Assists with deliveries as required.
- Works in various units including L&D, Women’s Services, Normal Nursery, NICU, and others as needed.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate's Degree. Specific course work: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- New hires effective June 14, 2017, must have a BSN degree from an accredited school of nursing within three (3) years of hire or transfer into the position.
- New hires or transfers into in the position between August 1, 2013 and June 13, 2017 must abide with the conditions in his or her offer letter and the verbiage in the job description signed upon hire or transfer into the position.
- Current employees who were hired or transferred into the position prior to August 1, 2013 will be grandfathered.
- Effective 07/01/2018, all current employees are required to have Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses Fetal Heart Monitoring (AWHONN FHM) Intermediate or Advanced by 07/01/2019.
- New hires and transfers are required to have AWHONN FHM Intermediate or Advanced within one (1) year of hire or transfer if no previous training.
- Skills: Demonstrates teamwork and communicates in a professional manner with all members of the healthcare team.
- Computer skills: Demonstrates the ability to learn and apply computer technologies and procedures that affect patient care delivery.
- Licenses/Certifications: Licensed to practice nursing in the state of Florida. BLS from the American Heart Association is required for all areas. Effective 11/20/2025 ACLS is required within 6 months of hire or transfer. NRP is required within 6 months of hire or transfer. STABLE (sugar, temp, airway, blood pressure, lab work, emotional support) is required within 6 months of hire or transfer. Fellowship RN's must obtain their ACLS and NRP within six (6) months of hire or transfer. Crisis Prevention Institute training within ninety (90) days, and then annually, is required for Psych Unit.
- Experience: Less than one year: For New Nurse Fellowship Program ONLY 1-2 years: 1-2 years of med/surg or related experience. Preferred Experience: 1 year of clinical experience.
