Nurse Resident (RN) | Family Birth Center| Full Time

Key Responsibilities

• Provided with additional training, assessment of skills and support during their three months of hire.
• A licensed professional nurse accountable for direct and indirect age-appropriate patient assessment, care planning, patient care and monitoring of patient outcomes.
• Collaborates with all patient care providers and the patient/family in the development of the patient care plan.
• Reports patient status to the patient's physician and/or LIP and obtains orders for care.
• Demonstrates the ability to provide patient/family teaching that is age appropriate and accommodates the individual learning needs of the patient.
• Demonstrates safe and competent nursing care, reflective of the philosophy and standards of Gritman Medical Center, following the guidelines and rules set forth by the Idaho State Board of Nursing, American Nurses' Association and the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations.
• Maintains competency in emergency nursing procedures and protocols.
• Upholds the standards set by the Idaho State Board of Nursing and the American Nurses Association.
• Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Provides patient and family education tailored to individual learning needs.
• Educates and mentors nursing students, novice nurses, and peers.
• Participates in continuing education and professional development opportunities.
• Adheres to Joint Commission accreditation requirements and hospital policies.
• Promotes a culture of safety by identifying and reporting potential risks.
• Upholds Gritman Medical Center's mission, vision, and values in daily practice.
• Maintains confidentiality and complies with all organizational policies.

Qualifications

• Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and be eligible to take the Idaho State Nursing Board examination or to receive licensure by reciprocity. The NR must demonstrate competent performance of Gritman Medical Center's core nursing competency assessment requirements following training and education provided through the NR Program. Will have and maintain department specific required core competencies, education, experience and certifications as defined in the policies of each nursing unit. NRs are expected to maintain knowledge of and utilize current nursing practices based on sound nursing and medical research. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. ACLS, and PALS required within 12 months of hire. Required to attend hospital wide skills fair once annually BLS, ACLS, PALS Required.
• Licenses and Certifications: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Idaho or a compact state. Required Certifications: Medical Surgical Unit Emergency Department BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, ENPC Surgery BLS, ACLS, PALS Family Birth Center BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, Fetal Heart Monitor Preferred Certifications: Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN). Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse (CPEN). Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification. Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification. Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN).

• Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. from floor to waist occasionally. Frequent patient transfers requiring physical assistance. Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods. Fine motor skills for patient handling and computer use. Capability to perform tasks requiring kneeling, stooping, and climbing. Regular exposure to blood-borne pathogens and infectious diseases. Contact with patients under various circumstances, including emergencies. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations, including potentially violent or crisis scenarios. May be exposed to environmental hazards. Occasional exposure to hazardous fumes.
