Nurse Practitioner - Psychiatry (West Allis) Weekends Only)

About the Role

Rogers Behavioral Health (RBH) is a not-for-profit behavioral health system with over 100 years of experience providing top-quality psychiatric services and cutting-edge research. RBH offers care for adults, children, and adolescents across multiple levels of service, including inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and outpatient programs. With primary hospitals in Wisconsin and clinics in nine other states (California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Washington), this role allows you to serve as a team leader in a patient care model based on a multi-faceted treatment team methodology.

With the support of a collaborating physician, the provider will have opportunities to work in one or more levels of care, both in live and virtual environments, while supporting patient admissions, protocol development, quality assurance, and peer review evaluations.

Responsibilities

• Attend patients at assigned locations, which may include multiple sites, levels of care, or virtual services within the scope of licensure.
• Conduct medication management sessions, psychiatric evaluations, and assessments.
• Perform history and physical exams, create and update patient treatment plans.
• Provide patient and family education, and participate in team and unit meetings.
• Develop discharge plans and participate in the established call schedule.
• Complete all charting and documentation within 24 hours.
• Serve as the attending provider for assigned units and round on patients as required.
• Provide medication education to nursing staff and in-service training to the treatment team as needed.
• Meet patient productivity standards and comply with coding/documentation expectations.
• Attend Medical Staff and Medical Staff Executive Committee meetings.

Payor Relations

• Assist in developing and maintaining positive working relationships with all contracted payors.
• Review denials of service from payors for medical reasons.
• Interface with referring parties, psychiatrists, and primary care providers to coordinate care and aftercare.
• Market the employer through off-site meetings and marketing activities.
• Review potential admissions, pending cases, and declined admissions to ensure compliance with employer policies and EMTALA.

Advocacy

• Serve as an advocate for the organization by providing support, information, education, and services.
• Participate in quality assurance, performance improvement activities, and meetings.
• Take an active role in identifying new program development opportunities for patient care services.
• Engage in community education on behavioral health issues.

Admissions Support

• Provide initial placement recommendations based on admitting criteria, clinical parameters, and medical history.
• Review and evaluate completed admission screenings to determine the appropriate program, level of care, and mode of delivery.
• Communicate professionally and accurately with other departments, agencies, and team members.
• Prioritize effectively in situations requiring immediate attention.
• Develop and maintain relationships with medical staff and providers across RBH for ongoing case communication.

• Ability to use initiative and judgment to organize, plan activities, formulate policies, delegate responsibility, and make decisions affecting patient diagnosis and treatment.
• Flexibility to adjust to changing conditions, programs, and details of the position.
• Verbal and hearing ability to interact with patients and employees; numerical ability to maintain records and operate a computer.
• Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively through written, verbal, and auditory skills.
• Position requires walking, sitting, and standing; work is performed indoors and is physically light with moderate lifting (minimum of 20 pounds).
• Reaching, handling, grasping, and manual dexterity are necessary to operate office equipment.
• Must be physically and mentally able to perform job duties, as verified by a physical exam conducted by a licensed provider.

Qualifications

• Licensed in the state as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
• Board-eligible AHP; board certification preferred.
• Graduate of an accredited college or university.
• Successful completion of required practical training in psychiatry as mandated by the graduating institution and licensing body.
• Two or more years of experience working as a provider in a licensed hospital or clinic (preferred).
• Leadership and/or supervisory experience in a behavioral health organization (preferred).
• Experience with process improvement implementation (preferred).
