About the role

A Psychiatric Mental Health PMH-APRN works with individuals, families, groups, and communities, assessing their mental health needs. The APRN nurse develops a nursing diagnosis and plan of care, implements the nursing process, and evaluates it for effectiveness.

Responsibilities

• Offer primary care services to the psychiatric-mental health population.
• Assess, diagnose, and treat individuals and families with psychiatric disorders or the potential for such disorders using their full scope of therapeutic skills, including the prescription of medication and administration of psychotherapy.
• Manage the assigned patient's physical, psychiatric, and behavioral conditions.
• Provide medical and psychiatric services within the scope of practice for the APRN and according to facility policy and procedures.
• Evaluate patients and prescribe treatments utilizing established practice guidelines.
• Utilize the collaborative support of the medical staff when needed and when indicated by a patient's condition.
• Make decisions on care issues related to the patient’s condition to promote, maintain, and restore physical and mental health, and prevent illness.
• Interpret age/disability specific information in response to the client population served.
• Prescribe and provide for the safe delivery of medication and treatments in accordance with policies, procedures, and national guidelines of current practice.
• Thoroughly and accurately diagnose, manage, and document the patient’s symptoms, responses, and progress.
• Maintain responsibility for professional development, continuing education, and maintaining licensure.

Requirements

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, And/Or Experience Required:

• Education: Minimal of a Master’s Degree in Nursing, Licensed as a Nurse Practitioner with an earned degree in psychiatric-mental health nursing.
• Licenses: Licensed as a PMHNP to practice in the state.
• Experience: One-year APRN experience preferred.
