About the role

The Nurse Practitioner (Children's National Pediatricians & Associates) works independently with collaborative supervision using intuitive skills when problem solving in complex clinical situations. Demonstrates a highly skilled analytical ability in novel circumstances. The NP is credentialed to function in an expanded nursing role. Responsible for the assessment and management of patients, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and the implementation and evaluation of an appropriate plan of care. All activities are performed within the guidelines of protocols agreed upon by the Medical Director and under medical supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Works independently with collaborative supervision using intuitive skills when problem solving in complex clinical situations.
  • Demonstrates a highly skilled analytical ability in novel circumstances.
  • Responsible for the assessment and management of patients, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and the implementation and evaluation of an appropriate plan of care.
  • All activities are performed within the guidelines of protocols agreed upon by the Medical Director and under medical supervision.
  • Participates in clinical research and/or the utilization of its results.
  • Remains involved in multidisciplinary consultation for the delivery of patient care.
  • Direct management of patient in emergency situations.
  • Serves as a role model in clinical practice for complex patient care issues.
  • Enhances professional nursing by participating in professional organizations and committees.
  • Participates in on call rotation for individual practice as needed.
  • Communicates needed system changes effectively.
  • Identifies needs for professional growth of staff and communicates these effectively.
  • Participates in the development of standards of care.
  • Provides input and feedback to others for individual patients and their families to evaluate the quality of care.
  • Organizes workload in order to set priorities to facilitate short and long term goals.
  • Consults with other health care providers regarding policies of patient care.
  • Interprets the intent of the policies of the company in an understandable and non-biased manner to staff and families.
  • Monitor and document effectiveness of patient care interventions.
  • Participates in QA monitoring with the department or Practice.
  • Proposes and participates in the development of patient care programs to improve the delivery of care.
  • Affirmatively assesses learning needs of the patient and family.
  • Implements teaching strategies using appropriate tools/resources/research.
  • Evaluates patient and family level of understanding following implementation of teaching.
  • Communicates patient and family learning needs and response to teaching to other members of the health care team.
  • Develops educational materials directed at patients and families in area of clinical expertise.
  • Disseminates information pertaining to the research of other professionals in order of specialization.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: MSN Graduation from an approved education program for Nurse Practitioners.
  • Minimum Work Experience: 0 years Clinical experience with two years experience in the care of children.
  • Required Licenses And Certifications: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Licensure in the state(s) of clinical practice; Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP); Or Family Nurse Practitioner-Board Certified (FNP-BC).
