About the role

At Houston Methodist, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) (ACLS) functions as a licensed registered nurse and care provider to deliver comprehensive patient care, including diagnosis, treatment, and consultation, while maintaining and promoting patient health. This position operates in both inpatient and outpatient settings, adhering to the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Texas and working as part of a treatment team. The NP (ACLS) role models compassionate communication with patients, physicians, and the interprofessional healthcare team, providing education on preventative care and prescribed treatments. Responsibilities include conducting physicals, ordering tests, serving as a patient's healthcare provider, and prescribing medications as appropriate. The role affects direct patient care in alignment with the Houston Methodist Professional Practice Model Nursing Practice and Professional Performance policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher from an accredited school of Nursing and graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioners program
• Two years of registered nurse, advanced practice, or nurse practitioner clinical experience

Licenses and Certifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) – Texas State Licensure (Texas Board of Nursing) – PSV
• Compact Licensure – Must obtain permanent Texas license within 60 days if establishing Texas residency
• Non-Acute Care state license and Non-Acute Care ANCC recognized certification
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or Instructor (AHA) – American Heart Association
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Instructor (AHA) – American Heart Association
• Prescriptive Authority (AP) – Texas Board of Nursing – Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation – PSV
• Narcotics License (DEA) – Drug Enforcement Administration – PSV (within 6 months)
