Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant - Pediatric Critical Care (PICU)

About the role

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is seeking experienced Advanced Practice Providers (NPs/PAs) with 2 or more years of ICU and/or critical care experience to join the Pediatric Critical Care team. The team works across the Philadelphia and King of Prussia campuses, staffing the Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and PICU at the King of Prussia Hospital.

Responsibilities

• Affirms the complex acute, critical, and chronic health needs of patients.
• Evaluates and formulates a plan of care based on relevant data.
• Administers therapeutic interventions to manage acute and critical health issues.
• Monitors and modifies the plan of care based on patient responses.
• Ensures health promotion, protection, and prevention measures are integrated into the care plan.
• Facilitates transitions between and within healthcare settings.
• Provides educational resources to patients, families, nursing staff, and the multidisciplinary health care team.
• Acts as a consultant to the health care team and participates in scholarly activities.
• Maintains competency, identifies learning needs, and seeks educational opportunities.
• Serves as a mentor and preceptor for the development of nurses, nurse practitioners, students, and other health care providers.
• Demonstrates a commitment to patient safety by reporting safety issues and sharing errors.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant.
• Master's Degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant preferred.
• Prescriptive Authority - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board – Required within 3 months of hire.
• Specialty Certification - in area of education/subspecialty. Required certification must match scope of practice for that practice area.
• Registered Nurse - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board – Required upon hire.
• Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board – Required upon hire.
• Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board – Required upon hire.
• Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) - National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants – Required upon hire.

Qualifications

• Ability to work in an inter-professional team setting with multiple responsibilities.
• Effective use of computer and electronic medical records.
• Basic use of a computer (mouse, keyboard, printer, USB ports).
• Basic use of Microsoft Office (Word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and Teams).
• Web browsing, intranet search, document access.
• Use of shared network file space.
• Basic use of patient facing technology (e.g. IV pumps, point of care devices, CR monitors).
• Navigate clinical communication systems.
• Information Literacy: Determine the nature and extent of clinical information needed and access it effectively.
• Information Management Literacy: Navigate the electronic health record system and use clinical decision support tools.

• Acts as a preceptor and mentor to support the development of nurses, nurse practitioners, students, and other health care providers.

• Shares errors or potential errors through system reporting mechanisms.
• Demonstrates shared accountability for safe practice.

Benefits

CHOP offers a $20,000 bonus to experienced Advanced Practice Providers (NPs/PAs) with 2 or more years of ICU and/or critical care experience. The team works across the Philadelphia and King of Prussia campuses, staffing the Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and PICU at the King of Prussia Hospital. The team consists of over 30 APPs working a rotating schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $117,900.00 - $156,300.00 annually. This job is eligible for an incentive program. At CHOP, we are committed to fair and transparent pay practices. Factors such as skills and experience could result in an offer above the salary range noted in this job posting.
