About the role

The APP (NP/PA) provides comprehensive direct patient care and scholarly practice including obtaining comprehensive patient histories, performing complete physical examinations, ordering and performing diagnostic testing and screening, diagnosing illness, prescribing both pharmacological and other treatments for patients, and providing health maintenance and promotion interventions such as patient and family education and counseling. Also, the APP assumes accountability for indirect care responsibilities, which support patient care including staff and student education, clinical research if applicable, program development, and quality improvement. Assists in clerical functions as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Obtaining comprehensive patient histories
  • Performing complete physical examinations
  • Ordering and performing diagnostic testing and screening
  • Diagnosing illness
  • Prescribing both pharmacological and other treatments for patients
  • Providing health maintenance and promotion interventions
  • Assisting with staff and student education
  • Assisting with clinical research if applicable
  • Assisting with program development
  • Assisting with quality improvement initiatives
  • Aiding in clerical functions as needed

Requirements

  • Completion of Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Master's of Science program from an accredited college or university
  • Successfully completed a National Certification Exam for NP/PA
  • Current registration through the Alabama board of Nursing and/or Board of Medical Examiners
  • BLS certification required by the end of the orientation period

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly
  • Works well with others in a team environment
  • Previous experience with electronic medical records preferred
