Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant - CT Surgery - Full Time - Boise

About the Role
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will join a dedicated cardiothoracic surgery team, focusing on a patient-centered approach to inpatient care. This role involves first-assisting in cardiac and thoracic operations, managing the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), and overseeing the step-down unit. The practice includes a multidisciplinary team of 3 surgeons, 8 APPs, 4 specialized CVOR anesthesiologists, and 4 perfusionists.
The program performs over 350 open heart surgeries, 175 thoracic surgeries (including 80 robotic lobectomies), 160 TAVRs, and 75 MitraClips annually. Specializations include adult cardiac surgery, aortic surgery, minimally invasive valve surgery, robotic thoracic surgery, and hybrid maze procedures for atrial fibrillation. The team also manages ECMO and Impella 5.5 devices and participates in the STS Registry for quality and outcomes improvement.
Schedule
- Surgical orientation: Five 8-hour shifts per week for approximately three months.
- Permanent schedule: Four 10-hour shifts per week (generally 6:00 AM – 4:00 PM).
- Call: Shared equitably among group APPs (7 nights per month).
Responsibilities
- First-assist in all cardiac and thoracic operations.
- Manage the CVICU and step-down unit.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide inpatient care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical research.
- Support program development and educational opportunities.
Requirements
- Current, unrestricted Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner license in Idaho.
- Valid controlled substance registration with Idaho Board of Pharmacy and DEA.
- Vein harvest experience required.
- Strong medical background with a desire to grow within a multi-specialty medical group.
- Previous experience in cardiac disease management as an advanced practice provider.
- Commitment to obtaining Oregon medical licensure to support the health system’s internal program.
