Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant

NaphCare is hiring Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) to join our team of medical professionals in Torrington, Wyoming, where we manage all aspects of healthcare for individuals who are currently incarcerated in the Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution. Full-time and part-time positions may be available.

About the role

As a Correctional Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to individuals in residence. This position operates within a controlled environment where security is a top priority. You will assess, diagnose, and treat patients with a range of medical conditions and chronic illnesses, prescribe medications, and respond to emergencies. This is a unique opportunity to make a difference in a diverse population of patients with complex medical needs.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physical examinations, develop treatment plans, and monitor patients.
• Manage acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.
• Administer medications and provide patient instructions.
• Monitor and document patient health, including vital signs and medical histories.
• Provide direct patient care, triage, assess patient needs, develop care plans, and coordinate services.
• Respond to medical emergencies, provide first aid, and ensure timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities.
• Educate patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention.
• Adhere to correctional facility security protocols while working closely with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals.
• Maintain accurate medical records, document treatment plans, and report relevant information.
• Conduct rounds and evaluate patients returning from off-site treatment.
• Admit and discharge patients from the facility.

Requirements

• Advanced nursing education (Master's or Doctorate).
• Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in Wyoming.
• Current DEA registration.
• Appropriate collaborative agreement with the on-site Physician.
• Active BLS/CPR Certification (AHA preferred).
• Certification by a Board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
• Strong organizational skills to track patient treatment plans and progress notes.
• Knowledge of nursing practice principles, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, and applicable healthcare laws.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Experience working in a correctional facility or acute care center is a plus.
• Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and adhere to a Code of Conduct.
• Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.

Physical Capabilities

• Ability to stand for long periods.
• Lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds).
• Bend, squat, reach, push, pull, and walk significant distances.
• Perform physically demanding tasks like CPR while maintaining balance and endurance throughout a shift.
