About the role

The University of Minnesota Physicians seeks a Physician Assistant (PA) or surgically trained Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join the Vascular Surgery clinical practice at M Health Fairview.

Responsibilities

  • Practice in a combined inpatient and outpatient clinical practice settings
  • First assist in surgery as needed
  • Evaluate and treat vascular patients in the hospital in collaboration with staff Vascular Surgeon
  • Evaluate and treat vascular patients in the clinic independently
  • Daily inpatient ward rounds with resident and fellow team, completion of discharge summaries and seeing consultations. Optimization of care plan, algorithm development, and coordination of hospital discharge.
  • Extremity wound care – debridement, dressing, VAC placement
  • Education patients and families regarding disease process, interventions, and postoperative or post-procedure care
  • Participate in staff education and administration activities
  • Practice Sites: Fairview Southdale Hospital and M Health FV Vascular clinic in Edina. Some cross coverage at St. John's Hospital, M Health FV Vascular Clinic in Maplewood, and UMMC East/West Banks and the Clinics Surgery Center.
  • Schedule: 2-4 days per month depending on need and availability

Requirements

  • Experienced with OR assisting
  • Experienced in caring for Vascular Surgery or Surgical patients with at least 3 years of experience
  • A graduate of an accredited Physician's Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
  • Has a current MN PA/NP license and be approved by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice or Board of Nursing for prescription writing privileges
  • Certified through the NCCPA/ANCCA
  • Able to meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician's Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
  • Current MN PA/NP license and approved for prescription writing privileges
  • Certified through the NCCPA/ANCCA
  • Able to meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges

Skills

  • Experience with OR assisting
  • Experience in caring for Vascular Surgery or Surgical patients

  • Strong communication and patient education skills
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities

Benefits

M Physicians will provide compensation in the amount of $75 per hour. This casual position is not benefits-eligible. M Physicians will provide Professional Liability/Medical Malpractice Insurance. Additional information on our benefits can be found here.
