About the role

The Division of Thoracic Surgery is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join a collaborative team of advanced practice providers, surgeon consultants, fellows, residents, nurses, and other allied health staff. This role provides comprehensive hospital and clinic coverage for adult surgical patients undergoing complex thoracic procedures. NPs and PAs are integral members of a talented surgery team, where teamwork, learning, and collaboration are essential to meeting patient needs.

Responsibilities

  • Independent preoperative assessments
  • Coordination of patient care
  • Management of surgical patients in both preoperative and postoperative outpatient settings
  • Participation in all aspects of care for hospitalized patients, including admission, discharge, daily rounding, and patient education
  • Comprehensive patient assessment, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, diagnosing conditions, and prescribing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies

This position includes coverage during weekdays and rotating Saturdays and is eligible for shift differential.

Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner:

  • Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program
  • Current Minnesota RN and APRN license
  • Certification as one of the following:
    • Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)
    • Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP)
    • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP)
    • Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGNP or AGPCNP)
    • Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP or ACNPC-AG)
    • Gerontological Nurse Practitioner (GNP)

Physician Assistant:

  • Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Current PA certification by NCCPA
  • Registration as a PA by the Minnesota State Board of Medical Practice
  • Registration with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA)
  • BLS and ACLS certification

External and internal candidates are asked to attach 2-3 letters of reference to their application. New graduates should upload 3 letters of reference from preceptors. Mayo Clinic employees should attach their 3 most recent performance evaluations.

Relocation

Relocation assistance is allotted for candidates 70 or more miles away from Rochester, MN.

Pay

The base salary for this position ranges from $117,520.00 to $163,987.20, based on education and experience. Compensation for a 1.0 FTE ranges from $119,870.40 to $167,273.60.

Shift Differential

Shift Differential Day (7AM to 3PM) $4.00 Evenings (3PM to 11PM) $7.80 Weekend (Fri. 11PM - Sun. 11PM) Eligible for shift differential

Schedule

  • Full Time
  • Hours per Pay Period: 72
  • Schedule Details: Monday - Friday with every eighth Saturday (eligible for shift differential)
