About the role

The Employee provides diagnosis and management of adult malignancies and hematologic disorders, including use of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted treatments within regulatory and accrediting guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates a high level of independence and clinical expertise in the management of Medical Oncology using advanced clinical skills, diagnostic reasoning, and therapeutic interventions.
  • Integrates education, research, management, leadership, and collaboration with other health professionals into their clinical roles to maximize a patient’s health.
  • Practices in ambulatory, acute, emergency room, critical care, and long-term care settings, providing nursing and medical services to individuals, families, and groups.
  • Diagnoses and manages acute episodic and chronic illnesses, emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Teaches and counsels individuals, families, and groups as a major part of their role.

Requirements

  • Master’s prepared registered nurse (RN).
  • Two years minimum experience as an RN required.
  • Six months clinical experience preferred as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license with the State of Nevada, Controlled substance License to Prescribe issued by the State of Nevada, and Controlled Substance Registration Certificate issued by the DEA, required.
  • Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (A-GNP), or Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) issued by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB), or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) issued by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), required at time of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.

Qualifications

  • Working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license with the State of Nevada, Controlled substance License to Prescribe issued by the State of Nevada, and Controlled Substance Registration Certificate issued by the DEA, required.

Skills

  • Provides optimal patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of neonatal, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients and families, as applicable.
  • Knowledge of physical, motor/sensory, psychosocial, and safety appropriate to the age of the patient served.
  • Performs or initiates selected diagnostic procedures.
  • Initiates a program of treatment for the patient, in conjunction with the supervising physician.
  • Prescribes medications consistent with Nevada prescribing laws and DEA privileges.
  • Evaluates responses to health problems and programs of treatment.
  • Informs a person or family of the status of the patient’s health and alternatives for care.
  • Modifies programs of treatment based on the response of the person or family to treatment.
  • Refers to appropriate providers of health care.
  • Commences care to stabilize a patient’s condition in an emergency until a physician can be consulted.
  • Performs other acts within the scope of practice of a nurse practitioner, as applicable.
