Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Hospitalist
Brief Overview
The advanced practice provider (APP) provides patient-centered, specialized, evidence-based care across the continuum through an interprofessional approach to treatment, research, education, and advocacy. APPs are board-certified providers who assume responsibility and accountability for health stabilization, promotion, and maintenance of acute and chronic illness or injury. This role contributes to the mission and vision of the organization by delivering compassionate and safe care within the scope of practice as defined by the Nebraska state statutes, administrative code, and organization bylaws.
Essential Functions
- Provides safe, comprehensive, and compassionate clinical care.
- Assesses patient, synthesizes and analyzes data, orders diagnostic tests and therapeutic treatments, and evaluates clinical outcomes.
- Synthesizes and integrates the perspectives of interprofessional team members in developing and implementing the plan of care.
- Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; prescribes medications and complex medical regimes while monitoring for desired and adverse outcomes, specific to the infant/child with high risk, complex acute, critical, or chronic conditions.
- Applies evidence-based medicine pertinent to neonatal/pediatric populations.
- Continuously evaluates the relationships among access, cost, quality, safety, and their influence on healthcare outcomes and sustainability.
- Assumes leadership role to establish and monitor standards of practice and to improve patient care through sharing knowledge, leading teams, and developing programs.
- Constantly considers child’s development, family’s readiness and resources when translating health information, education, and support.
- Demonstrates understanding of internal and external rules, regulations, and legislation as it relates to APP practice, licensure, certification, and billing compliance.
- Maintains accurate log of credentialed procedures performed.
- Demonstrates competency and expertise when performing credentialed procedures/specialty skills.
- Serves as an advocate for the needs of the children and their families across the health care continuum, ensuring the best patient/family experience possible.
- Care coordination per CMS and/or program guidelines and completes all required program education per CMS guidelines.
- Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

Education Qualifications
- Education as required by Department of Health and Human Services-Regulation and Licensure Credentialing Division as represented by APRN licensure in the State of Nebraska.
Required Experience Qualifications
- Previous Advanced Practice Provider experience in pediatrics.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Satisfy all relevant criteria and qualifications outlined in the Medical Staff Policy on Allied Health Professional, required to be credentialed.
- Maintains practice agreement with service of specialty, and practices within framework of respective scope of practice.
- Maintains current knowledge and skill level in field through reading appropriate journals, networking, and attendance at conferences or seminars.
- Knowledge of physical, mental, developmental, emotional, and social needs of the neonate, infant, toddler, pre-school, school age, and adolescent patients.
- Maintains current knowledge and skill level in field through reading appropriate journals, networking, and attendance at conferences or seminars.
- Must be knowledgeable in billing regulation practices to include documentation requirements/CPT coding regulations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with multiple disciplines.
- Ability to be self-directed, with minimum supervision, and detail oriented.
Licenses and Certifications
- APRN-BC - Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Board Certified.
- CPNP-AC - Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care.
- BLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association.
- PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
- DEA License.
- ATLS - Advanced Trauma Life Support (only required if working in Gen Surg).
- ACLS (only required if working in Cardiology or CT Surgery).
