Responsibilities

The Nurse Practitioner (NP), under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site Physicians, provides a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients in accordance with established policy and state guidelines. Responsibilities include:

• Conducting routine and emergency medical care for inmates, including chronic care clinics, infirmary rounds, and emergency treatment on-site
• Ensuring necessary documentation of services is provided to the Site Medical Director or designee to monitor clinical services
• Communicating scheduling changes to the Medical Director and Health Services Administrator (H.S.A.) and arranging coverage for medical services during extended absences
• Adhering to established policies and procedures for medical care, including documentation in SOAP format, formulary regimens, and utilizing in-house resources for treatment
• Assuming responsibility and accountability for individual judgments and actions while reporting concerns to the Medical Director or H.S.A.
• Maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance with accepted practices for incarcerated individuals
• Providing input into facility mandatory committees as requested

This is a PRN position.

Requirements

• A graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program
• Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience; corrections experience preferred
• Patience and tact to effectively work with the inmate patient population in a corrections environment
• Scheduling flexibility to rotate hours and shifts as needed and respond to emergency situations for coverage

Qualifications

• Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment
• Current CPR certification
