Nurse Practitioner - Klingenstein 3 NICU - Mount Sinai Hospital - Full Time - Night

Full-time night position for a Nurse Practitioner in the Klingenstein 3 NICU at Mount Sinai Hospital. A Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a Registered Nurse with advanced clinical education and certification in a specialty area, authorized under New York Education Law to diagnose, treat, and prescribe independently within their specialty without physician countersignature.

Responsibilities

Clinical Practice

• Assess the health status of patients and families through comprehensive health history and physical examination.
• Initiate and order therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations; prescribe medication regimens; interpret findings; and alter the plan of care according to accepted standards and practice guidelines.
• Educate and counsel on health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses.
• Document findings and plan of care in the patient’s medical record.
• Consult with physicians according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria.
• Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care.
• Participate in team meetings and conferences to enhance an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery.
• Maintain patient and employee confidentiality in the management of information.
• Develop and implement the plan of care based on diagnoses and individual patient needs; record, report, and interpret client responses to the plan of care.
• Perform patient record reviews with the collaborating physician at least every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement.
• Complete the Focused Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (FPPE) or Ongoing Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (OPPE) as required for continued credentialing.
• Practice as a member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and hospital bylaws.

Requirements

• Ability to perform history taking and physical assessment techniques.
• Demonstrate and document competency in specialty-specific procedures as part of initial orientation and annual performance review.
• Ability to interpret and apply principles of nursing research utilization.
• Ability to manage and coordinate a patient caseload.
• Work within a Collaborative Practice Agreement or Collaborative Practice Relationship Attestation as a member of the healthcare team.
• Physical stamina and manual dexterity to perform tasks and skills in the assigned area.

Qualifications

• Licensure: New York State RN license with current registration; certified by the New York State Department of Education as a Nurse Practitioner with current registration. Must be a graduate of a New York State-registered NP program or equivalent, or certified as an NP by a national association via examination.
• Education: Master’s degree program designed to prepare an NP to diagnose, treat, and prescribe, or successful completion of an approved post-master’s NP certificate program.
• Pharmacy Component: Completion of a pharmacy component of not less than the required semester hours or equivalent, including a 3-hour course on New York State and Federal laws relating to prescriptions and recordkeeping.
• Collaborative Practice: Collaborative Practice Agreement with a physician and designated protocols if less than 3,600 hours of NP experience, or a Collaborative Relationship with a physician if employed at Mount Sinai Hospital with over 3,600 practice hours.
• Experience: Previous progressive experience relevant to the area of clinical practice required. National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing required for all NPs hired after June 1, 2019, or for those who bill for professional services regardless of hire date (may be deferred up to 1 year with approval).
• Credentials: Credentialed through the Credentialing Committee of the Medical Board with approved Delineation of Privileges; Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Additional certifications (ACLS, PALS, NALS, NRP) as required by specialty.
