Nurse Practitioner I - Psychiatry

About the role

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is part of the Tulane University Campus Health team, dedicated to supporting and promoting student health and wellbeing through a multidisciplinary, comprehensive approach. This position resides within the CAPS for Counseling Services Department and reports to the Lead Psychiatrist. The NP provides clinical services, including initial consultations, psychopharmacology evaluations, and medication management, and participates in community engagement activities such as designing outreach programs and developing materials for University constituencies. The role involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to maintain high standards of care and regular participation in staff meetings and trainings.

Responsibilities

• Protect confidentiality and meet all ethical standards associated with the practice of psychology within a university counseling center context.
• Demonstrate strong case formulation, assessment, and treatment skills, including understanding transference and countertransference in clinical work with diverse clients and issues.
• Exhibit outstanding oral and written communication skills to engage effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
• Utilize an electronic medical records system proficiently.
• Take leadership when appropriate, both administratively and clinically.
• Collaborate collegially with a multidisciplinary staff within CAPS and across the University community.
• Understand developmental trends and concerns of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
• Engage in ongoing self-reflection and understanding of personal factors affecting clinical work.

Requirements

• Licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with completion of an accredited University Graduate Nursing Program for Advanced Practice Nursing.
• Louisiana Board Certification as a Family NP, Women’s Health NP, Pediatric NP, or Adult NP.
• Current APRN license to practice from the Louisiana State Board of Nursing by date of hire.

Qualifications

• Formal training and/or experience as a specialized psychiatric nurse practitioner.
• Experience with ongoing clinical management of psychopharmacology.
• Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner as regulated by the LSBN (preferred).
• University counseling center experience (preferred).
• Competency documenting services using an electronic medical records system.
