About the role

The Bureau of Public Health Clinics-Sexually Transmitted Infections seeks to hire a Nurse Practitioner, L3. This individual will provide medical services at one of the Bureau's clinics, working closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain medical and sexual histories.
  • Conduct physical examinations.
  • Order relevant tests and microbiological testing.
  • Make presumptive diagnoses of sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
  • Provide treatment for STIs and HIV.
  • Administer Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) and Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention.
  • Provide contraception services, including long-acting reversible contraception (LARC).
  • Provide medication abortion services.
  • Vaccinate patients for Hepatitis A and B, Meningitis, and HPV.
  • Arrange referrals to other clinics as needed.
  • Provide health education to patients.
  • Rotate on the telemedicine service.
  • Collaborate with PrEP navigators, mental health specialists, and HIV case managers for comprehensive care.
  • Adhere to Bureau standards for productivity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A valid New York State License and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Completion of a Nurse Practitioner or equivalent program registered or approved by the New York State Education Department, or current certification as a Nurse Practitioner by a national certifying body recognized by the New York State Education Department.
  • To be eligible for Assignment Level II, one year of satisfactory experience as a nurse practitioner.
  • To be eligible for Assignment Level III, two years of satisfactory experience as a nurse practitioner.

Qualifications

  • A certificate to prescribe medication issued by the New York State Education Department.

  • Knowledge of public health policies and practices.
