About the role

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) works collaboratively with members of the healthcare team to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The practice emphasizes health promotion and maintenance, disease prevention, and the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic diseases. The position requires a high level of autonomy, motivation, and the ability to work independently. As an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN), the NP demonstrates leadership as a mentor, educator, researcher, and provider.

Responsibilities

• Direct care practice using a holistic perspective, therapeutic partnerships with patients, expert clinical thinking, and skillful performance.
• Reflective and evidence-based practice, utilizing diverse health and illness management approaches.
• Perform and collaborate with physicians on history and physicals, order and interpret diagnostic studies, prescribe medications, consult ancillary departments and specialists, and ensure smooth transitions between care levels, including discharge.
• Provide expert coaching, guidance, and consultation to nursing staff and healthcare providers.
• Serve as a leader in clinical, professional, and systems leadership, collaboration, and ethical decision-making.
• Promote nursing staff development through education on clinical skills, critical thinking, discharge planning, and effective communication.
• Mentor staff nurses to advance their roles in patient-family centered care while maintaining professional standards.
• Conduct and support research, evidence-based practice, and process improvement projects to enhance care outcomes.
• Incorporate current research findings and evidence into practice.
• Address reimbursement, business practices, marketing, legal, regulatory, and credentialing requirements.
• Engage in health policy issues, organizational structure, culture, and outcome evaluation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in MS, MN, or MSN from a National League of Nursing (NLN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited program (required prior to start).
• 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse.
• Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Qualifications

• Valid Arizona Nurse Practitioner license with prescriptive authority.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
• Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license.
• Fingerprint Clearance Card (required for Pediatric Behavioral Health Sites only).
• Specialty board certification from an approved national certifying agency (e.g., American Nurses Credentialing Center, National Certification Corporation, or American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)).
• Certification in stroke-specific education (for staff caring for stroke patients, required prior to start).
