Nurse (Outpatient)

About the role

The Indian Health Service (IHS) seeks dedicated Registered Nurses to provide comprehensive, evidence-based, and patient-centered care in an ambulatory setting. Our nurses play a vital role in improving the health of American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

Responsibilities

• Deliver compassionate care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
• Implement evidence-based care plans and monitor patient responses.
• Collaborate with the care team to coordinate patient care activities.
• Teach and counsel patients on preventive, curative, and rehabilitative measures.
• Administer medications and treatments, and document patient conditions accurately.
• Provide guidance and training to clinical and non-clinical staff.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
• Pass a background investigation.
• Successfully complete a federal background investigation.
• Obtain and maintain any necessary licenses or certifications.
• Be able to work rotating shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• A graduate or higher level degree from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required.
• Licensure as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States is required.
• Specialized experience in outpatient nursing duties, including triage, patient assessment, and implementing provider/clinic standing orders.
• Experience in developing and implementing disease management and prevention guidelines.
• Experience in coordinating patient care activities and communicating patient status/needs to providers and other staff.

Schedule

Rotating shifts are common, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Shift rotations may vary from 8-, 10-, and 12-hour shifts.
