Nurse (Outpatient)

About the role

Nurses at the Indian Health Service (IHS) play a vital role in delivering compassionate care to American Indian and Alaska Native communities. Guided by the IHS mission to improve the health of these populations, nurses provide essential medical services where they are most needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of illnesses and injuries.
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement comprehensive care plans.
• Conduct health assessments and screenings to identify potential health issues early.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
• Document patient progress and communicate with family members and other healthcare providers as necessary.

Requirements

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required. Additional requirements may include:

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state where you plan to work.
• Completion of a National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN).
• Experience working in a healthcare setting preferred.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

• Pass a background check.
• Be eligible for a REAL ID starting May 7, 2025, as per 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).
