About the role

Full time (Monday - Friday, day shift), no nights, no on-call, no weekends, no holidays. The Nurse Navigator is a registered nurse (RN) who possesses advanced knowledge and skill in cardiac nursing, making decisions of moderate difficulty while handling confidential patient records. Operates and analyzes telemetry cardiac monitors, exercise equipment, and patient evaluation tools. May be required to make critical decisions concerning the initiation of emergency medical procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the daily operations of the outpatient heart failure clinic.
  • Documents patient treatment regularly and accurately according to departmental policy.
  • Assists with inpatient heart failure patient care optimization.
  • Initiates advanced cardiac life support measures according to SAMC protocols in the event of a cardiac emergency.
  • Provides appropriate education to all patients.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and organizational skills, and evidence of professional development.
  • Familiar with current standards of practice and clinical and inpatient protocols.
  • Performs miscellaneous job duties as assigned in the absence of the nurse manager or supervisor.
  • Maintains a flexible working schedule to allow for clinic coverage.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved school for registered nurses and current state-required license to practice nursing.
  • Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certification preferred.
  • Certification as a heart failure nurse (CHFN) preferred.
  • Minimum three years' experience as an RN with 1-2 years' experience working with cardiac patients, preferably on a telemetry unit or coronary care unit.
  • Experience directly involved in education and care of patients with coronary heart disease, including heart failure.
  • Current Registered Nurse license to practice nursing in the State of employment.
  • BLS required; ACLS preferred per policy.
