About the Role

The Manager assists in coordinating participation in Performance Improvement activities to assure continuous Quality Improvement. This leadership role mentors, provides guidance, clinical expertise, and functional direction to members of the health care team while optimizing available resources to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The role involves patient care coordination, staff education and competency validation, and organization of quality/performance improvement activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Director with all department activities to assure a coordinated effort in fulfilling departmental responsibilities aligned with the hospital’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Coordinates, facilitates, and manages safe care for inpatients; directs and evaluates nursing care.
  • Monitors patient care activities and ensures adherence to department policy, procedure, and National Patient Safety goals.
  • Ensures nursing care is based on the nursing process and evaluates its effectiveness.
  • Troubleshoots problems and serves as a clinical resource and mentor to staff, providing coaching and feedback.
  • Ensures appropriate equipment and supplies are available and resources are utilized efficiently.
  • Demonstrates effective communication with all members of the interdisciplinary team, including physicians.
  • Provides support and educational resources for staff, participates in planning and provision of education, and ensures staff competency validation.
  • Collaborates with staff and other disciplines to improve processes related to patient care and satisfaction using QI/PI tools.
  • Conducts purposeful leader rounding on patients; investigates incidents and patient complaints, performing service recovery.
  • Performs discharge calls to provide patient follow-up.
  • Steps into the staff role as needed to deliver appropriate care to patients.
  • Administers and reconciles medications appropriately; adheres to infection prevention protocols.
  • Demonstrates understanding of patient rights, including confidentiality, informed consent, and privacy.
  • Demonstrates adaptability, problem-solving, and professional behavior.
  • Participates in continuous Quality Improvement programs, hospital and departmental meetings, and committees.
  • Actively participates in survey readiness activities and ensures compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and appropriate handling of PHI.
  • Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing; BSN preferred.
  • Five years minimum of RN experience with at least one year in a Charge Nurse or other supervisory nursing role.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas, or immediately eligible.
  • Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of employment.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications within 90 days of employment.

Work Environment

  • Frequent standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and reaching.
  • Occasional sitting, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and twisting.
  • Visual and hearing acuity required; color vision necessary for perceiving changes in patients’ skin color and colors of medicines and solutions.
  • Work is indoors with good ventilation and comfortable temperature.
  • Possible exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts, electric shock, radiant energy, communicable diseases, and bloodborne pathogens.
