Essential Functions/Performance Expectations
- Create and sustain a culture that supports staff to do their best work.
- Be skilled communicators, team builders, agents for positive change, committed to service, results oriented and role models for collaborative practice.
- Be visible and constantly communicate with the front line staff.
- Work as a Charge Nurse 2 shifts per week.
- Able to assess, project, and plan for patient needs.
- Make appropriate decisions by exercising independent judgement.
- Communicate effectively with patients and families, unit staff, physicians and other departments.
- Provide a safe environment for patients, families and co-workers.
- Incorporate continuous performance improvement recommendations into clinical practice.
- Supports and practices in accordance with hospital policy, procedures and protocols.
- Facilitate movement of patients through the treatment process.
- Ensure quality patient care and compliance with legal requirements.
- Will work in administrative role for 16 hours per week.
- Maintain departmental clinical manager responsibilities and expectations to include service excellence initiatives, people, finance, and clinical observations.
- Participate as needed to ensure throughput and ED patient flow is optimized.
- Anticipate the need to prepare for boarders on the unit.
- Assure front line staff are competent and are committed to professional nursing and maintaining required practice standards.
- Willing to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the unit.
- Provide mentoring and support for all staff.
- Intervene when needed for patient satisfaction or safety issues as they arise.
- Escalate to Division Manager when needed.
Education And Experience
- Bachelor of Science (BSN) Degree in Nursing required. If no BSN, must be enrolled in a program and /or completed within 18 months of hire.
- Master of Science (MSN) Degree preferred in Nursing Administration.
- Minimum of 2 years of full-time Emergency Department experience required.
- Current State of Texas License as a Registered Nurse.
- Certification in area of specialty (e.g., CEN, CPEN, CCRN, CNOR) required.
- ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC are required within 12 months of date of employment in the ED.

- Lifting is limited to 35 lbs. for clinical staff and to 50 lbs. for non-clinical staff.
