Essential Functions/Performance Expectations

  • Create and sustain a culture that supports staff to do their best work.
    • Be skilled communicators, team builders, agents for positive change, committed to service, results oriented and role models for collaborative practice.
    • Be visible and constantly communicate with the front line staff.
    • Work as a Charge Nurse 2 shifts per week.
  • Able to assess, project, and plan for patient needs.
    • Make appropriate decisions by exercising independent judgement.
    • Communicate effectively with patients and families, unit staff, physicians and other departments.
    • Provide a safe environment for patients, families and co-workers.
    • Incorporate continuous performance improvement recommendations into clinical practice.
    • Supports and practices in accordance with hospital policy, procedures and protocols.
    • Facilitate movement of patients through the treatment process.
    • Ensure quality patient care and compliance with legal requirements.
  • Will work in administrative role for 16 hours per week.
    • Maintain departmental clinical manager responsibilities and expectations to include service excellence initiatives, people, finance, and clinical observations.
    • Participate as needed to ensure throughput and ED patient flow is optimized.
    • Anticipate the need to prepare for boarders on the unit.
    • Assure front line staff are competent and are committed to professional nursing and maintaining required practice standards.
    • Willing to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the unit.
    • Provide mentoring and support for all staff.
    • Intervene when needed for patient satisfaction or safety issues as they arise.
    • Escalate to Division Manager when needed.

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor of Science (BSN) Degree in Nursing required. If no BSN, must be enrolled in a program and /or completed within 18 months of hire.
  • Master of Science (MSN) Degree preferred in Nursing Administration.
  • Minimum of 2 years of full-time Emergency Department experience required.
  • Current State of Texas License as a Registered Nurse.
  • Certification in area of specialty (e.g., CEN, CPEN, CCRN, CNOR) required.
  • ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC are required within 12 months of date of employment in the ED.

Physical Requirements

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily.

  • The individual must be able to: Stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, lift, see, speak and hear.
  • Lifting is limited to 35 lbs. for clinical staff and to 50 lbs. for non-clinical staff.
  • The individual must use an assisted-lift device or get another individual(s) to assist with the lift that is over these maximum limits.
