About the role
Join Connecticut’s most comprehensive healthcare network as an Emergency Department Nurse Manager at Hartford Hospital. The Emergency Department is a Level 1 Trauma Center, Comprehensive Cardiac Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and accredited Geriatric ED, treating an average of 110,000 patients annually across 108 beds (plus a new 19-bed ED Observation Unit). The department is a 2024 Lantern Award recipient from the Emergency Nurses Association for excellence in leadership, practice, education, advocacy, and research.
The Nurse Manager oversees daily operations, supervises staff, manages hiring and development, and drives performance improvement initiatives to align with hospital strategic goals. This role carries 24-hour accountability for human, material, and financial resources to ensure quality, cost-effective patient care.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the Emergency Department.
- Supervise and communicate with direct-report staff.
- Manage staff hiring, accountability, and professional development.
- Lead performance improvement initiatives for staff and the department.
- Ensure quality, cost-effective delivery of patient services through resource management (human, material, financial).
- Support and coach unit-based shared governance councils.
Requirements
- Current Connecticut Registered Nurse license.
- Bachelor’s degree required (one degree must be in Nursing). Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant clinical experience.
- Experience leading employees in an emergency care setting with progressive leadership skills.
- BLS certification required; ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and CEN preferred.
- Strong written, verbal, and public speaking/teaching communication skills.
*Exceptions to the educational requirement may be evaluated on an individual basis. Candidates in the process of completing the requirement will be considered, with continued progress toward completion required within five years.
