Responsibilities
- Facilitates staffing of medical department including, but not limited to, hiring, disciplinary action, and employee dismissal
- Directs and develops medical department staff by creating schedules, offering advice, and answering health-related questions
- Assumes managerial duties for performance evaluations and provide regular feedback and evaluation of employees
- Provides new employee medical training and regular, ongoing employee training of medical department and care coordinators
- Works closely with Directors of Clinical, Case Management, Housing, and Business Development departments to coordinate and maintain positive client care
- Afford assistance in solving nursing/medical department and administrative problems
- Performs new client medical intake process and nursing assessments
- Nursing to ensure that Physician’s orders are enacted in a timely fashion – usually within 24 hours of being written
- Promotes and restores clients’ health by developing day-to-day management and long-term planning of client care
- Collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary professional staff for client care
- Liaison with outside agencies to facilitate treatment process
- Assess client health for referrals to Internal Medicine, specialty healthcare providers, laboratory services, imaging services, Urgent Care, Emergency Services, and higher level of care
- Maintain accurate records
- Participate in Treatment Teams, Department Head and General Staff meetings
- Conducts performance improvement activities and prepare monthly reports
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Graduated from an accredited school of nursing
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensed
- Current BLS certification
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and communication skills, organizational skills, and detail-oriented
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of EHR, ePrescribe software, Word, Outlook, and Excel
- Prior experience in substance abuse or mental health treatment preferred
- Ability to assess client’s physical/emotional condition in a short period of time
- Accuracy of record keeping, i.e.; maintaining client charts and narcotic inventory
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Leadership ability, especially in case of medical emergencies
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards
- Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards
- Understanding of HIPAA, Federal, State & CARF standards & regulations
- Fundamental knowledge of professional nursing principles, techniques, basic addiction medicine science, and of community health and welfare resources
- Ability to handle stressful situations and interact with others
- Must be present during working hours at the office for in person meetings and access to a computer without violating company policy
- Ability to carry out written and oral instructions; to exercise judgment in the application of nursing care; to accept and use supervision; to work cooperatively with people; to maintain an objective attitude; to exercise tact and initiative; to stimulate patients and families to constructive actions; to grasp and apply the basic principles of administration and operation of a health program and to communicate effectively
