Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
- Direct the day-to-day functions of the nursing assistants.
- Ensure all nursing personnel comply with policies and procedures.
- Review and update department policies and procedures.
- Plan shifts’ services, programs, and activities.
- Maintain the Nursing Service Procedures Manual.
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations.
- Coordinate nursing services with resident services.
- Ensure compliance with job descriptions.
- Participate in quality assurance program.
- Participate in facility surveys.
- Review resident’s written discharge plan.
- Assist in planning the resident’s discharge plan.
- Interpret department policies and procedures.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge residents.
- Complete accident/incident reports.
- Chart nurses’ notes.
- Complete medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, etc.
- Prepare and administer medications.
- Verify resident identity before administering medication.
- Ensure adequate supply of medications and supplies.
- Order medications, supplies, and equipment.
- Notify Nurse Supervisor of drug and narcotic discrepancies.
- Dispose of drugs and narcotics as required.
- Participate in employee performance evaluations.
- Determine staffing requirements and make recommendations.
- Report absentee calls to Nurse Supervisor.
- Evaluate department work force and make recommendations.
- Create and maintain a positive environment.
- Follow facility’s established procedures.
- Administer disciplinary action fairly.
- Inform nursing personnel of new admissions.
- Ensure rooms are ready for new admissions.
- Make rounds with physicians.
- Requisition and arrange for diagnostic and therapeutic services.
- Consult with resident’s physician.
- Implement and maintain nursing objectives.
- Check certified nursing assistants’ work.
- Cooperate with social and activity programs.
- Inspect nursing service treatment areas.
- Administer professional services.
- Obtain specimens for lab tests.
- Monitor seriously ill residents.
- Take and record vital signs.
- Ensure proper care for residents.
- Participate in staff development.
- Conduct in-service training classes.
